Wave Rock Prime Beef Group Aims: To achieve more efficient and profitable marketing strategies for beef producers
by marketing cooperatively and promoting the whole district’s identity to
increase market recognition as a high potential quality beef producer region.
To
develop a relationship with processors and retailers, in terms of an alliance.
To research alternative marketing processes, ie CALM, to achieve the most
profitable and quality-controlled method for Hyden district beef producers.
To develop domestic consumer retail market recognition for quality grainfed beef
marketed as “Wave Rock Prime Beef”. To hold one or more annual auction sales in the district for locally produced
grainfed yearlings. To access bulk supplies of veterinary and feed additive products.
To share information at group workshops and access research from visiting
specialist advisers who have expertise in beef production and herd development.
To share information and skills with new feedlotters and younger farmers in the
district and to encourage them. To improve communication and industry information transfer between Group members
for the benefit of all. WRPB holds an annual auction in Hyden with grainfed yearlings from all member
producers auctioned on the one day. The auction is hosted by Wesfarmers
Landmark, who have assisted with advertising, transport of buyers, and
management of the auction and payment processes. Group members have organised
their own management to ensure all stock at each members’ feedlot is of a
similar, high quality, and ready for sale at the date set for the auction.
The Wave Rock Prime Beef Group is an organised but informal group of
approximately 20 beef producers from Hyden, Karlgarin and surrounding districts
who are working cooperatively for the benefit of all group members to achieve
improved individual profits by cooperative marketing, quality control, and group
education and training.
WRPB was formed in 1996, following a particularly difficult marketing season, by
a group of local beef producers who felt that in general, stock agents,
abattoirs and market buyers did not recognise the Hyden district’s quality and
potential for grainfed cattle production.
The group meets 3 or 4 times each year. For more information, contact Glenda
